Introduction to Beacon

Since 2011, Beacon College International (BCI) has grown from one student to a distinguished academic community, consistently ranking among Ghana’s top schools in Cambridge examinations. Founded by visionary educators Emmanuel and Regina Botchwey, our state-of-the-art facilities support STEM education, robotics, and diverse extracurricular programs. Our Cambridge-trained teachers transform academic concepts into practical, hands-on experiences, producing graduates who excel in prestigious universities worldwide.

True to our name ‘Beacon’, we illuminate young minds through innovative teaching methods and individualized learning approaches. Our motto, ‘Outstanding in every respect’, isn’t just words – it’s evident in our students’ achievements across academics, sports, and community service.

History to Beacon

Beacon College International (BCI) was established on 1st September 2011 by Mr. Emmanuel and Mrs. Regina Botchwey.  The couple, esteemed educators and visionaries, had a dream to create an institution that would not only excel in academic excellence but also foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where students could thrive. They believed in the holistic development of students and were committed to providing a balanced education that emphasized intellectual growth, character building, and extracurricular engagement.

2011

BCI opened its doors with just a student and a dedicated team of 5 teachers, but now the school can boast 90 staff and about 370 students. The school comprises the early years, primary and secondary schools. From the very beginning, BCI stood out for its innovative teaching methods, student-centered approach, and curriculum designed to cater to diverse learning needs, thereby leading the school to run the Cambridge Assessment International Education Curriculum from the United Kingdom.

‘Beacon’ means fire or light set up in a high or prominent position. Beacon College International is located at Community 19, Regimanuel Gray Estates, Lashibi.  Its motto is ‘Outstanding in every respect’.

The campuses of BCI campuses are named after the chairman and the vice thus the primary campus is the Regina Campus (RC) and the secondary campus is the Emmanuel Campus (EC)

BCI prides itself on its inclusive education practices, supporting students with diverse learning needs through specialised programs, individualised learning plans, and a dedicated support team.
The school has qualified and well-experienced teachers who are Cambridge-trained. Teachers understand learners and their educational needs. They strive to communicate a love of learning and encourage students to engage actively in teaching and learning. Students are the pivot around which all teaching and learning activities are planned and implemented. Teachers therefore facilitate and guide learners to take ownership of their learning as a requisite of a 21st-century learner. These make our Beacon Stars stand out wherever they find themselves.
The conducive environment makes our learners desirous of attending school. They wouldn’t want to miss a day’s interaction with teachers and peers. Classrooms are well-ventilated and spacious offering learners the freedom to move which is crucial for active learning. It also allows for ample space for them to explore, experiment and interact with their environment more freely.
